On Tuesday president Uhuru Kenyatta at the Narok County’s inaugural livestock show and auction bought a dairy cow with an unimaginable price of Ksh. 1.1 million.
The president went for the biggest dairy cow that weighed 1460 kgs. the event took place in Narok stadium. “The livestock sub-sector is a significant player in our economy which must be enhanced to create more wealth and jobs for our people,” said Uhuru Kenyatta at the event.
Narok County’s inaugural livestock show provided farmers with a platform to showcase grade and interbreed cattle.
Uhuru at the event encouraged Narok farmers who are fond of keeping herds of low quality and adopt modern methods by keeping high-grade cattle.
“A time has come for us to adapt our cultures to the needs of today. We must embrace new technologies in order to upscale our farming for quality production if we are to survive and compete in the global market,” said President Kenyatta.
Uhuru Kenyatta also pledged that the government is working round the clock to help farmers get quality and affordable livestock inputs and also improving livestock markets.
