A group of members of the national assembly farmers and business people from the great Rift valley is pushing to meet President Kenyatta over the rejected maize pricing.
The group is pushing to meet Uhuru Kenyatta before DP William Ruto returns from his trip to Italy.
The delegation is said to have already prepared a formal proposal stating that Ksh. 1,000 be transferred from the fertilizer subsidy to elevate maize price per 90 kg bag.
If the proposal they presents is accepted then a single 90 kg bag would be sold at Ksh. 3,200 from the current state offer of Ksh. 2,300.
CAS Andrew Tuimur appearing before that National Assembly’s Parliamentary Committee earlier, he stated that raising the price of a bag of maize to Ksh. 3,200 would not possibly happen since it had been approved by the Cabinet.
The CAS also said that the price was decided after all parameters had been considered.
He further explained that the ministry found the cost of production to have been Sh1,539 per 90 kg bag which made the kshs2,300 very profitable for the farmers.
