Education CS Amina Mohamed on Tuesday announced that the newly implemented education curriculum will be canceled in January 2019.

“Those who were to move to Grade Four in the pilot program will instead move to Standard Three but it will not affect their progress,” said Amina Mohamed.

The decision to cancel the new curriculum was arrived at after an internal evaluation revealed that the Ministry was not ready to roll out the new curriculum.

“We have to make sure that everything is in place, enough teachers are trained… make sure that the books are the right ones,” stated Education CS.

The ministry will now wait a wider evaluation and get a decision on when the new system will be rolled out.

The 2-6-6-3 curriculum system of education was launched in April 2017 and was envisioned to replace the 8-4-4 system.

The 2-6-6-3 curriculum system of education pilot phase covered 470 primary and pre-primary schools countrywide.

the new education system if implemented was more skill oriented and learner friendly, unlike the old 8-4-4 system which has been criticized for being too exam oriented. the new system will be embrace talent on the learners unlike the old one.

  1. I wish the government could work a little harder to ensure the new curriculum is implemented. It is the best curriculum after all what else do we need in this life if not skills to enable one set food on table rather than the 8-4-4 system that is exam oriented and focus so much on employment!!!
