President Kenyatta Launches A New Kenyan Currency


On Tuesday President Uhuru Kenyatta launched a new Kenyan currency in accordance with the 2010 constitution.

President Kenyatta was at the CBK officiating the launch of the new generation currency.

“We shall be unveiling a set of new generation coins which are compliant with our 2010 constitution. I am extremely pleased that today we can achieve another milestone, ” said Kenyatta at the event.

New Currency

“I am informed that the new generation coins continue the tradition of depicting an aspect that best describes our country,” he added.

The new generation currency which contains features that make them accessible to visually impaired people will begin to circulate on Tuesday.

The new generation coins will bear symbols and not portraits of particular persons.

President Kenyatta received the coins which are now legal tender and distributed some to people present during the event.

During the event, resident Kenyatta received a dividend cheque worth Kshs800 Million from CBK being that the government is a shareholder of the bank.
He thereafter deposited the cheque at CBK banking counter.
