Eugene Wamalwa who is currently holding office as Devolution and Planning CS discourage DP William Ruto on his 2022 bid to succeed President Kenyatta.
The Cs who was speaking during the launch of western jurists Sacco said that DP Ruto will not automatically succeed President Kenyatta.
Wamalwa said Luhya leaders had an equal chance of producing Kenya’s next president. Wamalwa being a member of Jubilee after his party New FORD Kenya merged with Jubilee before the last years’ election.
The CS also noted that only Retired President Moi is the only one who succeeded The founding father after his demise in 1978. He continued saying that if being a vice president was a ticket to being a president then Luhya leaders could have produced three presidents.
“We produced three vice presidents in succession but never produced the Head of State. Thrice we came close to the top seat but never got it. Therefore, being second in command doesn’t mean someone will become the next president,” said Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa.
DP Ruto having declared his interest in the 2022 succession politics he is presumed to be an automatic successor of President Kenyatta.
“I want to borrow words of Kenya’s tenth vice president Kalonzo Musyoka who observed we were lucky to thrice come close to getting to the country’s top seat. We should now not despair and think the remaining pinnacle is not achievable,” he added. The CS said lack of economic power was Western Kenya’s undoing in the quest for the presidency.
