Dp William Ruto on Thursday arrived in London and was expected to meet Kenyans in the UK for a cocktail meeting.
The plan for the cocktail meeting was however canceled in the last minute. DPs communication team indicated that DP was forced to be returned to the country to ensure that he and his boss were not out of the country at the same time. The president was headed to Ethiopia for the 32nd Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government.
David Mugonyi, the DP’s Communication Secretary told Citizen Digital, “He’s coming back. President leaves for Ethiopia Saturday morning so he can’t be away.”
The cocktail had been scheduled by the Kenya High Commission for Friday at 6.30pm for approximately one and a half hours. Persons that had signed up for the event were, however, notified that it was canceled on Thursday. The message was sent through Eventbrite- event management and ticketing website.
The notice read, “Good evening, Thank you for registering to attend the Cocktail to be hosted by H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, PhD, EGH, the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, scheduled for Friday 8th February 2019 from 1830hrs to 2000hrs in London. However, due to unavoidable circumstances, the event will not take place. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused,” the Kenya High Commission told those who had registered.”
Back in London, the DP welcomed the assurance from the UK government that Brexit would not affect the county’s relationship with Kenya.
Regarding the trade relations, he indicated, “Continued engagement and use of technology to deepen collaboration on areas of mutual interest will boost our manufacturing sector; stimulate industry; drive the Big Four.”
Manoah Esipisu, who is the High Commissioner of Kenya to the United Kingdom, informed that the DP’s visit was meaningful in promoting trade, investment, tourism, and people-to-people relations.
