Kenya’s Deputy p[resident William Ruto and ODM Leader Raila Odinga agree on having the Cabinet Secretaries should sit in parliament ass part of the constitutional reforms.

Raila Odinga who was speaking at his Capitol Hill Square office situated in Copperhill stated the reform would enhance governance and accountability compared to the current setup.

“I believe the composition of cabinet needs to change to include MPs,” Odinga told Daily Nation shortly after a meeting of Kenyan representatives of Asian descent.

“But let Kenyans openly debate the options because, at the end of the day, it is the people of Kenya who shall decide,” added the NASA Principal.

If the constitutional reforms are passed, the president will pick some or all members of the cabinet from the parliament. The current constitution does not allow the president to pick politicians for any cabinet secretary post.

Apart from the two leaders agreeing they still have something to disagree on. Odinga revealed that he wants Cabinet Secretaries to be picked from sitting MPs while DP Ruto noted that the Cabinet Secretaries should be ex-official members of parliament.

DP Ruto revealed it in his public address in Chatham, UK, where he proposed that Ministers attend parliament sittings at least once a week and whenever required to answer questions on the floor of the house.

The DP further noted that the parliamentary system of government, advocated by the opposition leader, was meant to create positions for election losers.

On Tuesday, The National Land Commission escalated the ongoing dispute between the commission and DP William Ruto over the land that hosts Weston Hotel.

The outgoing NLC Chairperson Abigael Mbagaya when she appeared on Citizen TV she revealed that the commission had directed for fresh land evaluation and that the DP would be expected to pay as per the prevailing land rates.

The outgoing chairman gave DP Ruto two choices, either to settle the debt as per the current land rates or pursue his own seller over the matter.

Mbagaya further justified that the move would enable Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), the agency which owned the piece of land and is in a dispute with Weston Hotel, to acquire land of similar size and value elsewhere.

“If he wants, he can go after the people who sold it to him… that’s what we are doing… you return it because it’s you we have caught on the ground then you chase whoever sold it to you to recover your money,” Mbagaya stated.

While denying that politics are at the center of the dispute, the vice chair revealed that once the valuation was completed, the report would be shared with the public.

“How can there be a political influence when you are telling somebody to pay restitution to the people of Kenya?” she asked.

This stance comes days after Ruto finally admitted that Weston Hotel land was illegally acquired.  DP Ruto who was speaking in an interview with BBC, he revealed that his team bought the land innocently from someone who had obtained it illegitimately. The land was valued at Ksh. 300 million in 2018.

“The National Land Commission (NLC) has made a finding that Weston was an innocent purchaser for value from somebody who got it illegally,” stated the DP.

United States President Donald Trump has expressed his impressions by a video of an unidentified woman juggling a football that went viral in Kenya.

The US President who applauded the level of skill and the talent shown by the woman by sharing the video on Twitter with the caption “amazing”.

Earlier on social media, there were claims that the woman was a Malawian national which other sources disputed the claim. the woman who was speaking in Swahili, the woman could be heard accepting the challenge by her audience to wager 100 ball bounces.

However, the woman doesn’t disappoint but goes ahead to juggle the ball using the head, her shoulders, knee, chest, and even the neck.

The crowd broke out in applause cheering her and she kept going to their amazement.

After an impressive act that lasted close to two minutes, the woman stops with the remark “Pesa yenu ndogo (Your money is not enough)”, in a likely reference to the amount paid for the bet.

Netizens have called for the woman to be auditioned on several platforms including Churchill Show and Britain’s Got Talent.

I Munched Hyenas Nose To Save My Life, Kajiado teacher Expains

John Matipei,42, a primary school teacher from Kajiado county was forced to bite hyenas nose to save his life during an attack on Valentine’s day.

The primary school teacher who is currently recuperating at the Kajiado county hospital said that he is so thankful to God for saving his life after fighting the hungry beast for over one hour barehanded.

“It was a matter of life and death and I had no weapon with me as it attacked me while I was fetching water for my goats around 5 pm,” he said.

“As soon as I had entered the well, the hyena landed on my thigh. I attempted to kick it but it did not let go. When I turned around it landed on my chest and faced me directly, that is when I bit its nose,” said Matipei.

He explained that he then jumped into the water and blinded the beast using mud before it fled. In the brutal fight with the animal, Matipei broke both his hands with the animal eating part of his thigh.

Dr. Odhiambo Opiyo said Matipei will stay longer in the hospital because of the injuries.

His wife, Jacqueline Matipei said the beast almost killed her husband on Valentine’s Day.

“I was looking forward to a great evening with my loving husband. I had prepared well to treat him, but that beast spoiled it all,” said Jacqueline.

Matipei teaches at Emukutan Primary School near Maili 46 in Kajiado West Sub County where he is the deputy teacher.

“We are only two teachers, the head teacher and me with 119 pupils in Class One to Six. As I am here now, my head teacher is teaching all the six classes,” said the injured teacher.

Kajiado Knut executive secretary, Elly Korinko visited Matipei at the hospital and appealed to teachers’ service commission to deploy more teachers to the school.

Commission of University Education has rejected 133 courses that have an increased enrolment of 10,000 slots in various Universities.

The students who are currently pursuing these courses may have to discontinue as those who have graduated are being blocked out of the job market.

  2. Garissa University offers 10 rejected courses.
  3. Alupe University offers 10 rejected courses.

  5. Kenya Highlands Evangelical University offers 8 rejected courses.
  6. Lukenya offers 6 rejected courses.
  7. Jaramogi Oginga Odinga of Science and Technology offers 6 rejected courses.

The Commission of University Education also declined to approve four courses at both Kenyatta University and Karatina University and three courses also rejected at Moi University.

Vice Chancellors who spoke to The Standard accused the commission of being insensitive as most of the courses were already being taught.

The commission’s CEO, Mwenda Ntarangwi, addressed the panic by the institutions explaining that the body was still engaging with affected Universities.

“This is still an ongoing process and we are in consultation with Universities,” the Professor stated.
